School complex Räfis

Three precisely placed volumes of the building program form a single unit that complements the needs of the existing school. The newly defined exterior spaces vary in size and finish depending on their use.

The addition of new elementary school classrooms is directly attached to the existing building. It preserves its entrances and internal organization. Its form creates an inner courtyard and allows the original historic school building to stand out as a reference and central element of the site.

The separate volume of the new sports hall defines the main schoolyard and opens onto the surrounding space through its low, all-around glazed facade. The playing field level as well as the changing rooms or storage rooms are located approximately three meters below the natural ground level.

The nursery, with its semi-private courtyard on the ground floor and the first-floor nursery, completes this composition and closes the whole complex at its eastern end.
